I’ve worked @ a location for almost a year now. I’ve gone from $8-11.50 and (for the most part) it’s been okay… OTHER THAN this company not only doesn’t do deposit, they pay us cash under the table with a simple piece of paper with our hours on it.
Wanna hear something even funnier? We’re expected to open and close 15 mins early (requires work) that we don’t get paid for. No time clock or anything. We come in 15 mins before our shift, stay 15 mins after to close and then get paid for the hours (minus the extra 30mins). The justification for this free labor is that we get free water and fountain drinks if we desire lol.
The reason i’m posting this here is to see how common this is.. i’m a full time student so it’s just a temp job i found (no temp agency involved i just walked in and applied) but i also got an amazing job offer thats also 10-99 but this ones out of state. They’re paying my flight, my apartment, company car, and the pay is nearly 3x what I make now…. But i’m assuming its cash as well since its also 10-99.. (i need to learn how to do taxes btw)
So obviously i’m probably going to take the job but i wanted yall’s thoughts on these work practices and once I leave the shitty job if I should do some type of BBB report or somethinf? Goes without saying i don’t get any type of insurance or benefits.
TLDR: I get paid cash under the table for 8 hour shifts when i’m really working 8.5 hours (sometimes 9 if it takes long to close). No time clock, no check, nothing but cash. It’s always seemed sketchy to me.
What do you guys think? (No replies from people like that neckbeard who went on FOX tv please lmao)
Thanks!
