Job promotion but no no pay increase

Ok so long story short. About a year ago I got a job promotion but found out after accepting I want going to get a raise at that moment. I know stupid me but I was actually excited so didn’t think too much about it. Well now my job has a new general manager and I brought up to my immediate supervisor that I’m going to ask for a raise. Well my supervisor told the gm and what he stated was is if he gives me a pay raise he’s going to expect me to do more. That’s where I’m kind of stuck. I’m thinking of asking for the raise but if he makes that comment my rebuttal will be that I accept under the condition that my pay raise will have to be substantially bigger since I never got compensated to do what I’m doing currently. I’m actually at the point where my team makes a much if not more than me so I honestly don’t mind stepping down if it comes to it. Am I being reasonable or rational for thinking what I plan on doing.
