I don't know how this is legal. If I pay for gas that means for an hour of driving (let's just say at 60mph) if I get 20mpg, with gas at about 4 USD per gallon, I'm spending $12 per hour of driving. I'm being paid 16.50 an hour, that means without calculating taxes or wear on my car I'm only making 4.50 an hour when driving, which is obviously below minimum wage. I haven't had to drive yet because I'm new. The expectation of using my car was explained and accepted upon hire, but the lack of reimbursement was not. Sure, it's not required, but it is expected and should be made clear.
Why am I giving this company money? What kind of expectation is that to have of your employees? I'm newish, and I planned on staying here a while. I don't want to cause trouble, but I will refuse if I'm not being reimbursed.
One guy won't complain because he doesn't want to cause trouble. He drive about three hours a week. That means he's giving over 1800 dollars a year to this company. We aren't a non-profit, why give them your money? They're supposed to be paying me. How is this not wage theft?
