Jumping through hoops

So this happened over the summer, but it still bothers me so I thought I’d share. I was doing a lot of interviews at the time and they were all pretty much the same, phone then zoom then in person. One in particular was very different. They started off normal with a phone interview, and in that call ha asked if he could send me some links via email. One was just to their website, but the others were a personality test and a skills analysis test. Those were no big deal, maybe an hour of my time total. I had a zoom interview next where all they talked about were the results and how they were above average. Awesome, so they want to schedule another zoom interview.

The next zoom interview was very standard, and at this point I really thought they might offer me something.

I get an email asking if I can do another zoom interview with someone else, sure why not. I really thought this would be offer time. Nope, just another standard interview.

Another email, “we would like to meet in person before hiring you on.” They give me an address and time. I show up and they gave me the wrong address. That’s fine because I got there early and was able to find it and still be on time. I go on in and I’m escorted to the break room because the manager is out at the moment. So I wait maybe 10 minutes and the manager shows up finally. He’s wearing pajama pants and a go team USA shirt (this was during the summer olympics.) I find this odd but continue on.

We go into his office and he has a standing desk and asks me to sit, but he doesn’t lower his desk. He’s also got a space heater on full blast (like I said this was the dead of summer.) He says “so why did you stop by today?” and that was the moment I knew I would never work there.

He shows me some stuff on his computer then says have a good weekend. I was in his office maybe 5 minutes total. I went home knowing even if I was offered something I wasn’t going to accept.

The following week I get an email asking me to have a zoom call with someone new. I did the call because I was curious what they would offer me, and I wanted to see their reaction when I denied it. During this call he tells me that they are offering me two positions and would like me to review them and choose between the two.

In their follow up email they ask me to write up a presentation on why I’ve chosen one job over another and they’d like me to present that over a zoom call. So I ghosted them. I was already done with them and was only following through to see what would happen.

They sent me another email a month or so later letting me know they were no longer considering me for any roles.
