I’m light of some states having primaries, we must push for change. 20 states still don’t guarantee time off to vote. No right to time off to vote further marginalizes large percentages of the working classes and even can turn some elections for a few reasons.
1.) Long hours and essential time after work time at home with family or other obligations keeps voters away, turnout for my states primary was incredibly low. Longer lines in some areas will take away so much time in the day and it’s important for workers to be at home with their family.
2.) Not guaranteeing workers time off just pushes more favorable candidates for the elite and tops of corporations who will do nothing to help with progressive change.
3.) Employers want to squeeze every last bit out of you. They want you working whether that extra hour they claim will add or keeping the overtime status time status quo with no policy changes
If you are in one of these 20 states, don’t give up, push your local reps. Even on the federal level, we can push for it as well.
