Basically the title, but I started at a new job in the US, and I won't provide much background for my own job safety, but essentially I have a few years background in the field, while my coworker, who personally spoke to me, stated he had no experience at all, as in had no idea how the job worked at all, got on at an astronomically higher pay rate. What do I do in this situation? I've spoken to my boss and was told that “there are good reasons” and may have mentioned that it was even unlawful to discuss other employees pay rates as well as inappropriate. In no uncertain terms she told me she doesn't want me speaking about it or any other employees speaking about their pay rates, because they would misunderstand, and there's reasons behind the decisions, regarding experience and quality of work.
Except my coworker had none, in his own words.
I'm unsure if this is unlawful, but I've been in a similar situation when I was much younger and I wished I had gotten a recording. This time I did get a recording, but just off this particular conversation with my boss.
It does get more interesting though. When they hired me on, they questioned me about my Delta-8 use, though it's federally legal, and said I would be allowed on even though they thought I was doing something unlawful(which it is not, in my state) but I should not ever bring it up or they would all testify against me. I'm not sure what to do but this feels like a very bad situation, and I basically had to get on this job since gas prices are high and I can't commute to the local city anymore.
What can I honestly do? I hope someone notices and cares, because I'm at a loss right now, and a bit concerned for future job security.
