So I work in a highly specialized field. My resume was only 1 page (I hate verbose resumes). Half the page was about my current employment and how closely it aligns with the job I was applying for. The bottom half of the resume was my education, other work experience, and proficient skills relevant to the job I was applying for. It was a 4 panel interview, and one of them called my resume “impressive”.
My interview was filled with the usual canned “tell me about a time” questions. Don't get me wrong, I shone. But I would have shined brighter had they asked me questions specific to the job. Like I said, this is a very specialized field and people are hard to find who are knowledgeable. I know, because we are hiring at my company and have received 50 resumes. None of which have experience.
After my interview was over, I get an e-mail from Talent Acquisition saying they would like me to redo my resume to show more of my experience.
This kind of pissed me off a little. I prepared for my interview. They didn't – they should have reviewed my resume and came prepared to ask me more about my experience instead of the canned questions.
Am I wrong? Does this raise red flags?
TL;DR: After calling my resume “impressive” during the interview, employer is asking me to redo my resume after the interview to list more experience, when I feel they should have asked me those type of questions of this highly specialized position during the interview instead of asking the generic HR questions.
