With the older generation needing more and more care as they go into the late stages of life, I see all of these positions for CNA’s and PCA’s (Personal Caregiver). I took a part time job here in the pan handle as a PCA working under a third party company in home health care.
Holy…. Shit…. So I told them I’m getting my bachelor’s degree and I’m in my final year so things are getting tough. My availability was 3 days a week due to this.
The first week I was scheduled, they put me on 6 STRAIGHT days in a row. When I called the scheduler about this, she didn’t understand the issue as I was still only scheduled for the 3 days a week that I asked for… Ok, learned my lesson there and after saying I literally would not be able to do almost a week straight they still said I was responsible for what I was already scheduled. Ok, ok ate that and worked it. Then they started lying about the condition of clients, saying they were independent when I would have to do a full bed bath from being completely bed bound and mind you, I have zero experience in the health field before this. During training we were told clients needed to be partly independent and we would not be sent to someone bed bound, we are not qualified. I was sent to someone bed bound last week and I do not get paid enough to wipe shit. They do not care about their clients it is sad. After many calls about the lack of communication and consistency with this place (showing up to help people and they send me home Bc the company fucked up scheduling) I put in my two weeks today.
I only made it 3 months with this company. They wonder why they cannot keep anyone, and I move up north in a month with my degree so let’s hope for better things. Just wanted to share my experience in here, I wonder if anyone else could relate?
