Antiwork

Just started working as a School Bus Driver FOR FUN, and I’m already getting sucked into their classic work mentality.

I'm doing this job because I've always wanted to give it a try, and I challenged myself to go through training and earn my CDL. So now I just started working, with the full intention of just working (within reason of course) whenever I want to. I don't want to work 5 days a week just because that is how the system has already worked… I just don't. I was pretty clear to them when interviewing that I don't need this job, like others might… so their advertised “minimum of 30 hours/week guarantee” means nothing to me, and they can feel free to give some of my hours to others who need them. This was probably just white noise to them, because nothing changed with respect to my onboarding experience thus far. By default, they tell are telling me when to work (which is every weekday), instead of asking me…

By default, they tell are telling me when to work (which is every weekday), instead of asking me when I would like to work. I have to keep reminding myself that I am working for ME and not for THEM. The company is hurting for drivers. But now that I'm in the system, it is strangely mentally difficult to maintain this mindset. It is easy to get sucked back in.
