A friend of mine worked at Walgreens years ago. He is a very hard worker and very introverted. He was there for 7 years and took MAYBE 30 days vacation the entire time because they always relied on him to cover shifts, stay late and come in early. He would never speak up for himself when we would have plans and they made him stay late, sometimes 3 or 4 hours.
He, I, and another guy were (still are very good friends) so he vented to us a lot about how miserable he was at his job. We told him to say something and put his foot down because he got an insulting, once-a-year raise, but still did whatever they wanted.
One night we called him and asked him if he wanted to go to McDonald's with us during his lunch break. When we picked him up, we started driving and passed McDonald's. “Uh guys we just passed it” We ignored him and kept driving. Once we turned on the highway he kept laughing and asked what was going on. My buddy and I said we knew how miserable he was and that we rented a shore house and we were going. We told him we can pull over so he can call his boss or we can keep driving. He asked up to pull off to find a pay phone (this was before we had cell phones) and quit.
To this day he is still so happy we snapped him out of that shit job. He is doing very well for himself now.
