Labor law question

So I recently moved for a job in February. They have promoted me to a salary position where my status is exempt. I will be in charge of a maintenance team, If I am still doing over 40 percent of the actual labor will I have to be non-exempt? I figured this subreddit would have some people in here that know these labor laws. Thanks in advance.
