Landed a new job

After 16 years of working for a major chemical company, I decided I’d had enough. Worked my way from being the first and only temp service employee, to running and scheduling production on 7 machines. While it was a tough choice to make I couldn’t go back and forth from 1st and 3rd shift any longer. Couldn’t put in 65 hour weeks any more. Couldn’t have 7 phones calls in the middle of the night on a vacation day. And most of all, I couldn’t ask my crew to do it any more either. I came across an inventory management job and decided to apply. 4 days later I have a job offer. 70k salaried, 40-45 hours a week, 2 weeks vacation and other similar benefits. I came across an inventory management job and decided to apply. 4 days later I have a job offer. 70k salaried, 40-45 hours a week, 2 weeks vacation and other similar benefits. Small, growing company with lots of growth potential. As great as it sounded, it was still a tough decision. I called my current boss on Friday and he seemed shocked. Told him If he had anything to say or wanted to talk about to call.

Monday morning rolls around and my stomach is in knots. I don’t know what to do. Stick with what I know and stay in my comfort zone? Or take a 15k raise and have (hopefully) most of my stress alleviated. I have him til noon and he never called. Next Friday is my last day and I feel so relieved. There are good jobs out there, don’t feel stuck and afraid to leave one behind.

And the best part – it’s right next door. Literally a fence between us. I’ll be sure to wave.
