Landlords are actual scum. Insurance is a scam.

My apartment recently flooded. The complex was in the middle of shotty roof work, and we had heavy rain. The roofers tarped off the roof for the entire complex, and the tarp blew up above my unit. All the water funneled into our unit, collapsing the ceiling in the living room. Asbestos and all. My high end renters insurance fought tooth and nail not to cover anything. After three emotional weeks they finally caved and cut us a check. Given that there is asbestos and serious renovations will need to be done, we got a three day notice to vacate. Thankfully, we had been looking for spots while we were in Limbo. Side note, I think we found our next home, which is a blessing. After three emotional weeks they finally caved and cut us a check. Given that there is asbestos and serious renovations will need to be done, we got a three day notice to vacate. Thankfully, we had been looking for spots while we were in Limbo. Side note, I think we found our next home, which is a blessing. But in the process of hunting, we applied for a beautiful spot. over 1500 square feet and a bit over my fiance and I's budget at $3000 a month. We thought it was worth sacrificing in some other areas of life tom make it work. The application fee was $50 a person, so $100 total for the two of us. They mentioned they had 60 applicants. We got word we didn't get approved a few days later. No big deal, it had 60 applicants and it was a bit more than we wanted to pay. What has me upset is that they didn't choose any of the applicants. They simply relisted the rental at $3500 a month. I'm furious. At a minimum they collected $3000 in application fees, more likely they took in 3500-4000 because of couples who arent married, or roommate situations, where more than one person had to submit an application. All just to turn around and relist the house for $500 more dollars. It's insane out here.
