Left them with no one to do the job.

I work for a very popular brand of drinks and 3 years ago. I had been there for around 3 years and was able to secure full time employment. For this company it was a huge thing considering they had casual workers that had been on for 8 years. I went from working the warehouse to the spare parts store. In fact my supervisor at the time (who was also in the warehouse) wouldn't take the position of spare parts supervisor unless I came with him. Obviously I was surprised but really happy that he liked working with me so much. He was a great guy, except for his terrible taste in music. Country songs played loud and proud in office all day. Within 8 months he was offered a dream job outside of the company and left. I was left supervisor-less and I couldn't be happier. This spare parts…

This spare parts store was a mess. Parts locations were never updated, finding anything in that place was near a miracle. Luckily, before my supervisor left, he put in place a plan to move where the store was located, including new drawers for all the parts. It was an organisers dream.

After 6 months I moved everything and every single part had a location and was updated on our system. It was a dream come true. We are talking 2000+ parts.

Finally another supervisor was hired. I was excited, until the day she started. The whole first day she didn't once introduce herself. She spent time with every other team then the one she would be supervising. I think my dislike started there.

Over the months she never bothered to learn a thing about the job I do. I had made handbooks with every process detailed. I would work on them in my spare time and kept them updated constantly. We would see her at our morning meeting and sporadically throughout the day, sometimes not at all. This was disappointing. I basically managed the day to day while she dealt with budgets and honestly, I don't know what. Both the supervisors before her had very much been involved with day to day.

My mental health started taking a dive. I had no support within the role and I essentially was doing the job of myself and the supervisors role within the store, this caused me to dislike her even more. As much as I expressed how little she was doing and that I was struggling. I contact the EAP (employee assistance program), they are to help during stressful times. I get approved for sessions with a counsellor but they do very little to help with the dislike that was growing and interrupting my life.

Its clear we don't mesh and don't work together well. She tries to introduce processes that don't work or complicate the job even further. I push back since I'm the one doing these things while she sat back in her office.

One Friday I am off work since I was unwell. I come back to work on Monday to find she has introduced a process that was ridiculous. I try to explain to others effected that I'll fix it and not to worry. She isn't impressed. She brings me into the office to tell me it's her way or the highway.

I take the week off for stress leave. I couldn't deal with her shit anymore. By the next day, I decided to quit. I couldn't think of going back to that place. After the work I put in with no thank you. My mind was made up.
I was super emotional about it, I had been there for 3 years. I go in to collect my things and say goodbye to everyone that I cared about. I also completely wipe my work laptop that had all my excel worksheets, all my hand books, every single procedure I had written up.

After 2 weeks, I find out from a co worker that they had to fly someone over from another state because no one knew how to do my job. That meant paying for flights, paying for accommodation, transport, meals, and salary still.

It made me so fucking happy to know that I left that place and it fell apart for at least a week without me there! I still think back to it and laugh. I could just imagine how the would have freaked out and see a huge company like that stutter for a bit without me.

Sorry this is so long, I've wanted to get this out somewhere. Thank you for reading.
