Let’s talk about interviews and the companies who ne er notify applicants when the position is filled

Had a great interview last Wednesday. Sent a follow up note thanking them for their time and that I looked forward to furthering the discussion. Company has yet to respond (which typically they don't) or update me on the position. From conversation during the interview, the director was stating that the position is looking to be hired very quickly. Which leads me here with my frustration. Why the fuck do companies not unilaterally send Indeed notifications and close our applicants? As someone whos hired many positions over the last 9 years, I always notify all applicants. Their time is just as valuable as mine and they may be holding off on accepting another job due to hearing back from another they want more. Just so damn disrespectful to the applicants when a company can't even update you in a timely manner.
