Local Housing Authority trouble in Tennessee

Obligatory on mobile comment. Sorry. This might be a long one. I work for local housing authority in small mostly rural area. I’m gay and in my late 30s. Recently, as in September 2021, things have taken a turn for the worse. It all started when my department, applications and leasing, was placed down in a recreational center. This arrangement would allow us to continue seeing families who needed help while maintaining social distancing. It didn’t work. The housing authority management created cubicles with small office spaces and dividers. It was open. Large families often had trouble because each cubicle only accommodated two adults. It was awful. I work for local housing authority in small mostly rural area. I’m gay and in my late 30s.

Recently, as in September 2021, things have taken a turn for the worse.

It all started when my department, applications and leasing, was placed down in a recreational center. This arrangement would allow us to continue seeing families who needed help while maintaining social distancing. It didn’t work. The housing authority management created cubicles with small office spaces and dividers. It was open. Large families often had trouble because each cubicle only accommodated two adults. It was awful.

In September 2021, our Executive Director started getting friendly with another co-worker. This lady is the spawn of satan. I know of her from a previous position. My opinion of her was asked prior to her being hired. She was hired anyway by the ED and he later told her I don’t like her. I was just honest about her work ethic and ability to work with others. She has a habit of stirring the pot. Prime example is coming up.

In September 2021, our ED wanted to move the whole department permanently into the recreation center. What was supposed to be a temporary solution, complete with makeshift office space on a basketball court, we were being told we’d have to be done there full time. We decided as a department to talk to our ED and attempt to appeal to him. We explained how it was cold in the winter and hot in the summer. We said it was clearly meant as a temporary solution for COVID. He just laughed off our concerns.

We left that meeting feeling like we’d lost. Like we knew we would have to go down into a miserable situation for the foreseeable future. Within minutes, other employees started texting people at the main office. Asking why our department “attacked” the ED. What we thought was a professional meeting with our boss, had turned into us blindsiding him and whining.

Insert his friend he’s gotten. She told one of the other ladies, who’s been at the housing authority since Jesus was baby, and who happens to be the ED’s executive assistant, that we were talking about her to our ED about how we wanted rid of her. She’d walked in and over heard that part, allegedly, and then left before she heard anything else. This caused so much drama and was completely false.

There more. A lot more. Missing Section 8 funds. Homophobia. I’ve received a threatening email to work email that I need to rescind my complaint to the board of commissioners who oversee the housing authority. I was told that it won’t end well for me and called the f word through out. Needless to say, the work environment is hostile.

We are just waiting. Waiting for this consultant that the housing authority hired to talk to everyone and do his investigation. I’ve spoken with WJHL and WCYB here in the Tri-Cities and they won’t touch it I talk to the EEOC.
