Hi guys. Thought this would fit in here. Sorry in advance for any mistakes I'm posting from my mobile
So my younger brother (23) applied for a role back in October to work for a council department in the UK on a secondment basis dealing with complaints. He has a lot of experience dealing with complaints ( he doesn't stick to jobs very long as he wants to earn the most he can get )
He was successful and has been doing the job for over 6 months now. No issues with time keeping or quality of work etc just sailing along.
He received a call from his manager asking how he is finding the role and wondering if he would be interested in the role on a permanent basis and for a pay increase and still remote working with an occasional day in the office which he was more than happy with. He went and filled the application form in and heard nothing until..
He was rejected upon application. No reason just unsuccessful. He then spoke to his manager who told him he didn't have the relevant qualification and his application could have been better.
The application was the same one he used when he got the job. The only difference is he has actually now done the job. Also other people who had to reapply for the job they were doing without the qualifications were offered the opportunity to gain the qualification through employment with them. So he really had no valid reason why he was rejected. He was then asked to do a two week extension for the same job!
So I was speaking to him today and this sub-reddit kicked in.. hard.. typed a nice long email and and also CC'd is his manager, his managers manager, the head of the council and the local MP with all the above and seeking clarity on the situation. He accepts he will have burnt his bridges and wouldn't take the job if it was now offered but these managers take the piss and hopefully the higher management will see this is BS too.
Apologies for the long read. Is this post anti work? I hope so and apologies if it doesn't fit
