I recently took a supervisory role, and was ignorant in assuming I could or should start before it was made official. I took the job knowing I'd be paid less while doing more– but I work with kids that I adore in a program that is a joke, so having the chance to make improvements and genuinely help them made that “okay”.
I worked for a month and a half making unnecessary and excessive (unreasonably so, in hindsight) accommodations for the program that left me unable to perform job duties without putting in extra hours.
Only to find out that despite having signed the paper and agreed to wages I'm not going to be paid it. Because when I submitted the request for adjustment they merged the position with my current one. So I was effectively terminated as leadership, with no notice (even after the fact only told by a supervisor who thought I already knew) and ripped off at least 2k.
And the cherry on top– there's an identical position in our sister program and I am happy to report she is dealing with none of these issues and has magically been promoted, despite verifying that we were and are in the same position.
It genuinely breaks my heart to consider leaving my kids but I'm having the hardest time rationalizing how I can continue to work for a company that never wastes an opportunity to prove that it cannot give less of a shit about me, my time, or my money.
