I wanted to post after reading this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/te0f5w/just_got_a_verbal_warning_from_my_boss_who_says/
Let me start by saying I work in IT, but am by no means a security expert. Work monitoring software has become pervasive, and it's pretty much assumed if you're in a work from home situation. If you are working from home, you will ideally be using a computer owned by the company (hopefully they are not making you use your personal computer), and it likely has monitoring software. That type of software generally runs in the background, and has admin access to your camera, microphone, and desktop. You should assume that if the computer is on, your company can see all open programs, and look at your desktop as well as use your webcam, and microphone. The computer probably won't explicitly warn you when this is happening. I would advise against doing anything on, or in the vicinity of that computer you would not do with your boss standing over your shoulder. Turn the computer off completely when it is not in use. You can get a physical webcam cover, but unfortunately there's nothing similarly effective for the microphone. Companies already take enough from us, don't let them take your privacy, too.
