My wife works at a gas station. Recently, a customer drove off without paying for gas. Now, they are told not to pre-authorize fuel pumps 3 & 4 to avoid situations like these. Pumps 1& 2 are aligned better so you can see license plates, so you are told you can pre-auth if the customer is a regular. However, people BERATE cashiers who don't do this, pull a Karen, and get the manager involved, and usually get their way anyway. It is an EXTREMELY lax policy, I even I have heard the manager say “just do it, don't do it, it doesn't matter”. So, of course, it happend and now the manager is expecting her to fork over 103 bucks like it is just no big deal. And of course threats of disciplinary action are be made to intimidate her into paying. I think it's total bullshit. If a customer robs you in most cases, they don't expect you to pay that, they have insurance, ( I have heard a couple of cases where they have tried). My wife is so kind hearted and always tries to do the right thing, and is scared to death they will fire her over this. Idk, it just pisses me right the fuck off! If policy is not to do something, there shouldn't be an option to do it. Also, set some CLEAR rules, not just “don't do it, except for sometimes “. We all know cash is tight right now, it isn't news to anyone, but we are paycheck to paycheck at this point. Sorry friends, just ranting I guess.
