So I was 3rd shifting at the speedway not too long ago. There was a manager there that wasn’t very well liked and was petty about people sitting around and being on phones. She would go as far as to monitor the cameras when she wasn’t there.
Me only making 10/hours didn’t bother listening. I would pull the office chair by the register when it was slow and stayed scrolling on twitter and TikTok when I was done cleaning and mopping the store. When she figured out what I was doing she chained the chair to the desk so no one could move it at all. She also put posters all over the cashier side of the register area. The poster read that anyone with a phone would be written up.
I was usually by myself during the night. I never got written up for my phone and I just started bringing my chair to sit in during my shift. After a few weeks of this she eventually found out (checking cameras) and told me she was tired of my bullshit. I shrugged my shoulders and went on my way but this changed how I saw the job. when your in a gas station, super late at night,by yourself and you rarely see a manager… let just say I never had to worry about lunch breaks at the store 😉
