I work in the entertainment industry which is notorious for blacklisting so throwaway.
Context: I gave my two weeks notice 13 days ago and tomorrow is my last day. I work in the lighting department and am the light board operator for the two shows that the company is running right now. Show A runs Thursday and Friday. Show B runs Sunday.
The reason why I gave my two weeks was lack of communication by my company manager and a really nice job offer. The company manager promised a contract back in early April but has never produced it. While I don't trust this person I trust their bosses who I've been friends with for years so pay isn't an issue, I know I'll get payed.
Recently this company has had a lot of turn over in other departments. Two in Wardrobe, two Stage Managers and one Cast member. All five people have not been replaced yet. Also another Cast member is leaving at the end of August so there's that too. Mind you this company is small so five people leaving is a little over a quarter of the workforce. As of right now I am the only one who has given a two weeks notice, everyone else quit or walked out. Two weeks ago I was offered a position with a fantastic company as their lead follow spot… I took the job and I start training on Monday.
Sorry for the long set up, here is the interesting part: Thursday night I was introduced to the person I would be training to replace me… after the show. I lost an entire day of training because get this, the company manager thought I was leaving next week. On my two weeks notice I say my last day with the company will be “Sunday, July 31, 2022” this company manager replied to that email saying that they will be sad to see me go and blah blah blah. They knew date I was leaving. (I've cc'd the company managers bosses on all emails to cover my ass)
I trained my replacement last night, I come to find out that they were in contact to get the position last week but the company manager just dropped the ball. I asked about pay to make sure the company manager isn't undercutting them and the pay is the same. Remember to stand with your fellow workers!
This means that my replacement will only have one day of training on each show that they need to run. The show's are 75 minutes and both have over 380 cues in each show. That's over 760 cues to know in a very short amount of time.
Tomorrow is my last day and my replacement still has questions about the light board we are using (It's a Strand 520i for those interested) it's an old board, came out in 1996 I think. I will do everything I can to help my replacement succeed, but this is the fastest I've seen a position turn over in my 20 years working in this industry.
Oh, I forgot one thing my replacement has a planned vacation in mid August and I will be in another country so I won't be able to run the show meaning that the company has no one to run the show during that time. The company manager fucked around and found out.
TL;DR Company manager gives my replacement only one day to learn new position because they thought I was leaving next week.
