I’m in a HCOL. I can’t eat dairy because it makes me sick. I went to buy margarine last night—it’s $7.50 for 13 oz. One quarter more than the federal minimum hourly wage.
Yesterday, someone posted a photo of gas (maybe in California) that was $7.49/gallon.
So for two hours of work in the US, I can get a tub of fake butter and one gallon of gas.
Gas in my area is hovering around $4.75/gallon, so I have that going for me I guess.
Minimum wage here is $15/hr. So for one hour of work, I can get a tub of margarine and about 1.5 gallons of gas.
I didn’t buy the margarine. I know it isn’t good for me anyway.
