I work as apprentice(work and school in the same time, don't know how it is called in the US) in this company for 3 years as IT engineer. More than 1 year ago all my colleagues (included my CIO) were fired and since I am the only one keeping the business up and running, basicaly doing the job of 3 people at once.
I never complained, but the boss always praised me and told me I will be the CIO of this company at the end of the contract. I don't really believe this bullshit, and good for me, because he delayed my proposal (which they should make, I didn't ask) every 3 months for different reasons (time, schedule, etc).
Please note that I didn't receive a dime as bonus for all the work I did, and every other colleague got their bonuses as expected, even tho I was the most quelified for a bonus.
I never said anything, except that I gave them a delay which of course they didn't respect. In 3 days from my delay date I got 3 offers which I signed with one of them. The current company doesn't know this, and they woke up remembering my contract ends in 3 months and they haven't offered me nothing yet.
They invited me recently in a meeting to tell them if I'm still interested, which I replied “yes” haha. They then told me the position of CIO is no longer available, since they are not satisfied with the past CIOs and they wanted to remove this position (go figure why)
Today they will come with an offer and I will see what they will offer, but of course I will not except it, because I already have my contract signed with another company.
I am eager to see their reaction when they will be faced with the fact that they need to find multiple people to do my job, and actually be competent.
They tried to recruit for 6 months someone under me and they couldn't so imagine how hard it will be to find someone to replace me.
They probably never thought that I will not accept their offer, since I am new to the “business”, but I already have a contract signed with bonuses that I will never receive at the current company.
Sucks to be an ass and not appreciate hard working people, but I guess they want to find this the hard way.
BTW they will need to pay atleast 50K more for someone to do the job I did, because I was basicaly the CIO of the company and I am literally the only one who hold the infrastructure up and running.
I will keep you updated
