It wasn't an interview per se, the owner wanted to meet me and handed me the contract. Saw what it was printed on and it has to be the most unprofessional contract I've ever seen. I couldn't believe it. I was looking forward to the job, too.
The entire time, the owner mumbled in a low, I-can't-be-bothered-to-speak-louder voice. I held my breath so I could make out what they're trying to say. But they went on a rant about how an employee or two had taken advantage to skip work. Fair, but I'm also a responsible person, so I don't think that warning applies to me.
Oh. By the way, employees will be given a laptop and they'll need to bring it home. Why? The owner wants employees to show initiative or else the owner'd assume they're doing nothing at home.
I know some employers pull this schtick to 'scare people off' if they're not serious. But why?
I spoke to the GM (they've been a lovely person so far) during my first interview last week and the work-life balance sounded alright. I do have things to do after-work and during weekends, anyway. I told them that I'm the type of person who'd try my best to finish my work within working hours. And now with what the owner said… I'm confused.
I didn't press on. I both of them I have a few follow-up interviews this week. The GM said, 'People really want you.' In my mind, I thought, yeah, they do.
Not sure if bringing work home and pulling this 'We're going to be tough on you' thing is normal at all. I personally find it annoying.
Sorry for the jumbled up rant. I'm just a bit frustrated.
