This subreddit shouldn't just be a space to share grievances. We need to fight for a common goal. I think paid vacation is one.
Everyone needs a break. It's time we mobilized to actually get something done. We're a big group and we can easily organize to get at least this small change enacted.
Many countries offer WEEKS of guaranteed paid vacation! You work? You get PAID VACATION! You DESERVE it.
The weekend does fucking nothing for me. I look forward to it and it comes and nothing. And it happens every fucking week and every fucking week and every fucking week.
That's it? Until I die? Unless I work for a job that's somehow more kind? What about everyone else? Until we die? Dying gasp of what?
Adults in other countries post plenty of videos every year of their fun time traveling abroad or fixing up their houses or devoting time to their hobbies during their PAID vacation.
They have it. Why can't we? We work and fucking work and work endlessly? Bosses see a profit. No respite? No chance to breathe? We give so much and they all make SO MUCH.
What do they do with the profits? Buy up real estate and drive up rent? Keep houses empty until they sell them, with no fixes or improvements, for a profit? Everything's more expensive and we're getting fucked.
It's time to focus on specific issues and fight for them. Specific legislation can be passed. Enough is enough.
I'd rather see more posts of protests and strikes here than any more screenshots of bad bosses. All the way through Homer, Shakespeare, Joyce, and many others, all covered the gamut of shit bosses. Fucking Milton wrote of the world's worst boss in Paradise Lost: it was God.
Get creative. Have fun. In the 60s, protestors would fill the pockets of jeans in Macy's with fliers for unionization. People would have disruptive sit-ins in specific stores. Plan a local sit-in at a Wal-Mart, a Starbucks, for unionization.
In the 90s, less than two dozen people started a protest at Nike headquarters about overseas sweatshop labor and it worked. LESS THAN 24 PEOPLE!
That's what we should be discussing. That's what we should be upvoting. Civil disobedience. I want to see a return to that.
Bosses are fucking bosses and fuck them. Nationally, housing and rent costs, food costs, basic living costs, are increasing, and we're getting fucked.
But history has always shared those grievances. Many popular US folk songs were written by slaves in the fields, the coal mines, the lumber yards, building the railways.
Yet there were also many songs written about John Brown.
Singing our songs reiterates thousands of years of oppression. We're right to do so.
But we need to do more than that.
How fucking awesome would this subreddit be if every post was a small group protesting in their own way against their own local inequality?
And what if just one tiny group started the national spark?
Look up the history of protest movements. They readied themselves. We should be sharing those guides more than anything.
