(in UK for reference) So just had what my bank calls a “health” check about what accounts I have, what kind of loans I can take out, etc etc (apparently these are planned for people who have accounts that don't change for years). Here are some of my favourite parts:
Banker: Do you rent or own
Me: (laughs) rent
B: are you hoping to buy?
M: dreaming maybe
B: it's more possible than you think with out help, let me run the numbers and see how much you could borrow
…runs numbers…
B: you know what I will schedule a call for next year, maybe you will have a partner or a better job and you'll be able to afford something.
…
B: do you have home insurance
M: I rent, as you know can't exactly own
B: but what about your valuables? You need them protected
M: I own nothing of value
B: really nothing? No expensive jewellery?
M: no.
Banker moves on
…
At end of call
B: well you have my information, if anything changes call us we can get on that property ladder!
M: hopefully the housing market crashes, then maybe I'll be able to buy
B: let's hope not, I'm buying my second home!
Anyway just needed to vent. People have no idea what regular people are going through. Especially those who choose not to work for the highest earning possible job or work 70 hours per week.
