Antiwork

My boss is the biggest hypocrite & makes everyone work overtime so she doesn’t have to work.

I work at a well known retail store, for about a year now. My manager always preaches work/life balance, but disregards that myself and the rest of the employees also have a life outside of work. Recently, I had been asked to help out and be a temporary key-holder (keyword, temporary), as one key-holder was on vacation time and another one of our key-holders put in their two weeks. I was more than happy to help out as it would give me a bigger paycheck for the few weeks i’d be helping out until the other key holder got back from vacation.

However, it has been about a month and a half, the other associate key-holder is back from vacation, and my manager is still scheduling me 8 1/2 hour days (only shifts that key-holders have). My manager had not explicitly asked me if i would like to continue the key-holder position and just gave me a set of keys and started including me in the manager group chats and meetings. I am not even sure if i have been given the pay raise that key holders have.

My manager also puts herself on the schedule for 5-6 hour shifts but will only work half of the 6 hours or not at all, and will text me off the clock asking if i can extend my next shift to work all day to cover so that my manager won’t have to go in. On days my manager does come in, either is sitting in the back all day or clocks in and goes out into the mall to our sister-store for 45+ minutes/an hour at a time. We will get complaints on top of complaints in the group chat that numbers for the day were terrible, etc. and a lot of our associates are new and my manager gives no extra coverage when it is only me and one brand new associate who I basically have to do everything for since they are brand new and don’t know our system yet.

I just wish my manager would step up and do the job that a manager requires, instead of putting all of the work and requirements on the associates to keep the business running.

How do i go about talking about this with my manager? I don’t want to seem ungrateful for the opportunity, but i am a student and will be starting classes in a few weeks and need to go back to my current shifts i was working before she asked me to help as temporary key-holder.
