So I've starting working for this tech company recently and I was given a contract for part-time work for X number of months for trial basis, after which time they would review my contract and hire me full-time.
Within a couple of weeks of working, my boss gets in touch with me and says that they've decided to hire me full-time, but that he needs to meet with me to iron out of the details. At the meeting he says that they're happy with my progress and even though it's only been a couple of weeks since I started, they want to take me on full-time and give me another project.
There's a caveat. He says that he's been told that the salary I'm currently being paid is too much for the geographical region in which I'm located, and that they would like to renegotiate my contract to pay me significantly less.
So essentially I would start working full-time instead of part-time, and be taking on more work, but be getting paid less than what I was getting paid when I was working part-time.
I told him I was shocked and said that I didn't know what to say, and that I would in no way be okay with being paid less than what the rest of the team would be getting paid, because we have to be equals. I was very uncomfortable and not interested in negotiating. He said he would speak with his superiors and get back to me.
Note: this is a WFH tech position that pays $15/hr. We have to provide our own computer equipment and everything. There are no benefits, healthcare or anything like that. That's what they want to negotiate me down from.
Should I quit? Should I wait for my contract to run out and then quit?
Edit: they want to offer me $5/hr
