Last Saturday I woke up in the middle of the night with chest pains, I was scared and called out of work because I thought I may have needed to go to the hospital.
I should note, I do not have health insurance at all.
My boss demanded that I come in; I told them that I was going to go to the hospital (at the time I was) and then I waited around to see if my chest pains would get worse. I really wanted to avoid actually going, as I don't want the medical debt.
After about 6 or 7 hours, the severe pains stopped. They stayed mild the rest of the day, I took some tums and acid reflux medicine thinking that perhaps I had a severe case of Heartburn (I've never had it before) and within a day or so they disappeared.
My boss informed that the only reason I could miss work was if I had an emergency worthy of the hospital; they now say I can't return to work without a doctors note. I didn't actually go to the hospital, so I didn't have a note.
They took me off the schedule and I said that I did not quit, I merely had trouble that day. They said I needed to provide a doctor's note as I no call no show'd (I didn't, I contacted them over text).
My immediate manager stopped responding to me entirely. I reached out to HR to ask if I was fired or not because of the ghosting.
The supervisor of the entire facility contacted me, they asked for a phone call. I refused and instead asked for text messages. She told me to come in and have a meeting. I refused again, and asked for a determination of employment over text messages.
She says she refuses to tell me over text if I am employed or not, saying it's not a matter to discuss over a text.
What do I do? Is she allowed to make me come in to find out?
