My boss said asking how much money you will make during an interview is a “red flag”

First post here, but been browsing for awhile now. I am a college student working a golf course close to my house and school. It's honestly an enjoyable job, with good people and it's great that it's so close to my house and school. I've had a little trouble recently with management and giving me a raise I was promised after I received a promotion. It wasn't a huge promotion, I just got moved from cleaning the golf carts to working in the proshop behind the counter and was trained to be a back up beverage cart girl. I was promoted at the beginning of May and was promised a raise. I still have yet to see it, though.

I've gone to my manager many times asking about it and every time he says that on the next paycheck it will be there. I'm about done with it and and going to give it one more chance before I quit, because again I do really like the job.

But anyways, today I was working with him and asked about the couple of people who he recently had asked to come in for job interviews. He said they seemed good until I asked about one in particular that didn't show for the interview. He stated that he didn't believe she would have been that great of a hire anyways because she had asked a couple “red flag” questions over the phone. He then provided an example of one being “How much money will I make?”.

Maybe it's just me, but for a job like this, where I'm only making 10/hr and still haven't gotten a raise despite going above and beyond, and where the people that work in the position she's applying for make even less at 6.50/hr plus tips. I don't really see why asking that is a red flag, maybe y'all can explain it to me. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
