My boss stares at me at me blankly all the time

I got awarded a dayshift spot to “float around” and cover people. It got me off night shift and was supposed to help me move up in the company. When everybody is here, there’s nobody to cover. Nobody takes days off, so I’m constantly doing nothing. “But OP, there’s always something you can do!” You’re right. I clean. I restock. I do bitch work to pass the days. And when there’s nothing to do, my boss just stares at me. He doesn’t teach me anything. He doesn’t give me any tasks to do. He just stares at me without saying a word expecting me to come up with something to do. I called him out on it twice and both times he just shrugged and kept staring with his beady eyes. This position wasn’t necessary, but it got me onto dayshift. I got a raise and I see my family…
