my boss told me to ‘know my place’ when I was trying to help

I work for a small company that delivers parcels for the biggest company in the world. For a couple of weeks now, our delivery drivers have been getting an unachievable amount of deliveries on their route. I work a supervisor like position and went to the higher ups to ask what can be done on our end to improve the circumstances and I was given some answers. I reached out to my boss and explained what we could do but he immediately shut me down and told me that he does not see a point in coming up with plans and processes to improve our circumstances. I've spoken to other companies on the matter and the suggestions I had, worked for them when they were going through similar obstacles.

When I was asked by higher ups if I was able to communicate solutions to my boss, I said no. He is not interested in resolving these issues and I am not going to push the matter when there is no end goal. A day later, my coworker also made similar remarks to higher ups about the lack of communication with our boss. So a report was sent to a business coach.

Days later, my boss ends up calling me asking me if I spoke to the higher ups. When I explained the situation to him, he told me that I should know my place and that I should worry about day to day operations. I told him that the issue affects day to day operations. He then asked me if I forgot that he had given me an opportunity and I told him thank you but this doesn't need to get personal. He stopped the conversation there and simply told me to only worry about drivers. So I've been keeping my head down but the situation really sucked for me. My coworkers don't really talk to me anymore either. And the coworker who complained more than I did to the higher ups, he did not face any repercussions and hasn't said anything to me about the matter anymore.

Just felt like getting this off my chest on this sub.

tl;dr
My boss wasn't happy about me taking matters into my own hands when it came to improving the situation in his company. He ends up telling me to know my place and uses the 'opportunity' he gave me against me. My coworker did the same but didn't face any discipline.
