My Company Essentially Gave My Landlord a Raise.

I had a stellar “exceeding expectations” annual review at work. My manager submitted me for a promotion that would come with a significant pay bump. She told me last week that although executive leadership appreciated my work and are thrilled with my results, they could only offer me a 3% raise because a promotion wasn’t in the budget. They also didn’t want to just give me a title change with no extra pay, so I can’t update my resume to reflect a title change. This week, my landlord informed me that due to rising costs, my rent would be going up 5%, so my additional income is just going to be added to my rent check. My company gave my landlord a raise.
