I work for a small company of less than 10 people in a niche field. One of the two owners of the company mentioned to me back in December 2021 that they were planning on giving everyone a raise and bonus in 2022. We received a small raise in March (less than true cost of living raise but whatever). The bonus was a reoccurring conversation in which we were promised it would come, but there was always some excuse why it hadn’t happened yet. At the end of June, I accepted a new position with a different organization in a different state, but I worked out an agreement between my future employer and current employer to stay on at my current job through the middle of August to help alleviate some of the pressure from my current employer and to give me more time to get things ready for the move. I informed my current employer immediately and my boss appeared to take it well and was thankful I was staying on for longer before leaving. Today I was catching up with a coworker that I am close with (we all live in different parts of the country so we don’t always chat often), and he said something like “well, at least we finally got our bonuses.” It was a month ago, and it seems I am the only one that didn’t get a bonus. Am I justified in being a bit pissed about this? I fully understand that I am leaving and they have no obligation to give me a bonus, but they had promised it months ago, and I’ve always had a great relationship with my bosses. I’m strongly considering leaving before my last few worksites are finished. Am I overreacting or was this a dick move by my employer?
