This happened last year but I am new to this sub and think it fits, I work for a smallish company (8 staff members in the office) and the normal rules for holiday is only one person off at a time which is okay. I tried to book a week in September of last year off to take my daughter on holiday, it was February when I sent the holiday request form. After not hearing back for 3 days I checked with my colleagues individually who all confirmed they do not need that week off, so I went ahead and booked the holiday as it was fast running out of spaces. The next week my manager declined my holiday request, when I asked why he stated that HE had “mentally” booked that week and the following week off for his own holiday. I followed up with a screenshot off the handbook where this rule is not statesld and the fact that he regularly books his own holidays on days one of his staff members is off. He held firm and then berated me for booking the holiday off before receiving confirmation from work, I spent £85 admin fees changing the holiday dates and it left a bad taste in my mouth but I moved on. That week in September rolls around and low and behold my manager has forgotten all about his “mentally” booked off holiday and when I asked him about it he laughed and said he had decided to cancel it months ago. Furious would be an understatement.
