To start off, I work at a nonprofit rescue center. I make $13.50 an hour and work anywhere between 20 – 45 hours a week. On February 23, I got bit by a dog. I had no training before hand, I had no idea what to do. I called my manager, who didn’t pick up.
The only people who helped me were my coworkers. Last Monday, I emailed my manager and said I no longer wanted to work with the dogs. Not going to lie, I have some trauma. My boss told me if I was to only work with cats, it would be less pay and less hours. I said “Sure just let me know the pay/hours.” He said he would let me know the next day (Tuesday). Wednesday, I email him- he says he will get back to me the NEXT day. Thursday comes around- nothing.
Sunday, still nothing- now I’m thinking are they firing me? They’re understaffed, under paying, and he doesn’t even care I got injured on the job. (March 13, I’m still bruised and sore)
I’m so tired of “we’re a family”. I thought nonprofit work would be rewarding, but it’s all the same. I have no idea what to do for work, and I just need to pay for my cat’s emergency vet bills. I’m at a loss.
