So my dad has been in middle management, the higher end I guess?(distribution manager) he’s always made a good 6 figure salary to support my mom, my brothers and I. Which as long as I can remember has been his entire life. He works, comes home and when we were kids used to have some free time to be our soccer coach and baseball coach and whatnot, but as we got older and he had less of that it seemed like he kept getting more and more work.
A few years ago he got a new boss, a guy half his age with little experience. Worked my dad ragged. Assigned him to nightshift work in his early 60’s, which also became weekends and part of days as well; bottom line he was working practically nonstop. Gets home to his work laptop in the early morning after a full nightshift on site.
Back in December I quit my shitty job, im a nurse so i can find a new job no problem in this market, but my dad would call and talk about how he envies I did it without a care. A few weeks ago dads boss calls on a Sunday to bitch him out about something work related, and idk what snapped but my dad quit on the spot, told his boss he’s done as of that moment. He drove up to see me later that week and god the difference in him was nice. Actually not busting my ass about what me and my brothers call his “business talk” where he harasses us about our income, retirement, benefits etc. he was actually just enjoying his time and we got to talk about how he’s so happy he finally got this fucker off his back after years of dealing with his shit. As he’s nearly at retirement age now he doesn’t think he’ll go back to full time work and is excited. Fuck shitty bosses, doing this to anyone let alone an old man.
