I wish I could name shame the shit out of them, I really do. However, my employment arbitration agreement would lead to them bending me over for it. Even so, I still wanted to rant about how fucking stupid this company is. Without naming names, I will say it's a very larger insurer in the U.S. and it's a claims job. Our turnover rate in the last year has been atrocious. In a dept of roughly 100-150 people, we lose 1 to 2 employees per week because they're just fed up with the amount of work slammed on to us. A lot of us have been barking up the chain lately that they need to pay us overtime (we're all salaried) as we're having to work 10-20 hours extra every week to stay on top of the workload. Upper management has met that with absolute silence for months now. Last month they announced that everyone has to fly across the country to a summit so we can have an all day meeting for ONE DAY. Let me tell you, I spent more time at airports and driving than I did actually in the city where we had to go. My travel days had to start at 4am and didn't end til 7 or 8pm.
We all get to this summit, and of course they open we the generic corporate bullshit of “OMG look how great we did this quarter, we appreciate you all!” Followed by what made every person below upper management level cringe:
“We have heard your requests, and let me tell you this: we care about you all too much to incur the expense of paying you higher salaries or overtime. To do that or hire more people is expensive, and expensive companies don't retain customers. No customers, no jobs for you. So you need to ask yourself: is this the right place for you?”
Well… HELL NO. Met with multiple employees afterwards and talked, and almost all of us either already have new jobs in the process or will be looking now. I seriously don't understand the incompetence at the executive level to believe that people will want to remain at your company to be paid less than competitors pay, while also working more hours for no extra pay. Absolute fucking insanity. Good luck dumbasses, you're going to need to fill a lot of seats after this stunt. (Oh and all of our work just piled up while we had to travel, awesome customer service.)
