Sorry but feel a little ranty.
The contract my company has was supposed to run through the end of October. Apparently however construction is somehow ahead of schedule and the client wanted to start shifting over to inhouse positions instead of outside work.
Yesterday afternoon I got notified from my boss that we are to wrap up and be done by the 31st and myself and my team had a choice of either unemployment or taking a job in another state, of course no relocation package or anything like that.
Spoke to the client later that evening and found out our end date was changed back in February… Our boss just decided to not tell us until a week beforehand because he was afraid of high turnover.
So in this mornings meeting I laid it out to my team, told them that we are unfortunately out of work as of next Tuesday and that our lovely company decided we didn't need more than a weeks notice of that despite them knowing for almost 3 months now.
End result? We collectively agreed to just say fuck it. Cleaned out the office, left a pile of stuff that belongs to our company in one corner and a stack of boxes that belong to the client in the other. Kind of shot ourselves in the foot here since we will no longer qualify for unemployment but we were pissed. We were relying on the job lasting another 5 months. Even with it being cut short had we had more notice we could have been better prepared.
Now I guess we get the fun of dealing with the bullshit hiring practices I keep reading about in here… yay.
