My (ex) boss told me my minimum wage was a raise

I worked as an assistant at a country club for 3 years. For the first 2 months of spring and summer this year I was the only worker in the tennis division and was putting in my time; my boss was even complimenting me saying how important I was and what a great job I was doing, etc. Well I asked him for a raise and he said of course you’ve been such a help. I said 11 and he responded, “well, that’s your raise”. I was pissed and asked for a raise again later that week and he told me it’s too much work to figure out. I now work a new job that pays much better and I have a caring boss so I guess I should be thanking him. And btw one of the employees I trained got a raise the first week he was there and another employee told me she didn’t get paid her entire time there and quit after a month.
