My first real job as a YouTube teacher at nerd camp could not have worse management. Am I an asshole for asking for extra payment to explain how to fix the class.

I get paid $45 (not including tax obviously) a day to teach a 3 hour class to 10-13 year olds on how to make YouTube videos. Sounds amazing right? Wrong. The management could not care less about how awful this clas is. If I was a camper there I would ask my parents to switch me out after day one. They want me to teach a bunch of rowdy elementary/middle schoolers how to make gaming videos, reviews, Vlogs etc. etc. with nothing but a shitty $300 Lenovo laptop and with less than three hours a day (The kids get a 30 minute break halfway through class) I don’t know if any of you know this but that is practically impossible. Besides the fact I actually have to give the lesson, the idea that these chatty 12 year olds could plan, film, edit ,export, and upload A full YouTube video in…

I don’t know if any of you know this but that is practically impossible. Besides the fact I actually have to give the lesson, the idea that these chatty 12 year olds could plan, film, edit ,export, and upload A full YouTube video in about two hours is a total joke. And like I said we don’t have headphones microphones real cameras, decent software (we use this app called openshot that looks like it was designed by a third grader on MS paint) or anything like that, just these shitty Lenovos that crash twice a day.

They wanted to pay me $20 to give a teaching session on this class to other instructors for later in the summer but I literally have no advice to give. This is my second week teaching the class and I can guarantee the kids from the first week learned practically nothing. I was willing to give a full report on what works about this class and what doesn’t (basically everything) and how they can fix it instead.

I was going to send an email to my instructors letting them know this with a Google dock with all of my notes in it. But I feel like I should ask them for the $20 before I send the doc. I haven’t written it yet but I know exactly what I want to say and it’s gonna take at least 45 min to write out. If they would pay me for the teaching session I feel like they should pay me for all of my notes on how to fix the class but at the same time charging for a literal Google doc feels like a dick move.

At the same time they are doing absolutely nothing to make my job easier and practically scoffed at me when I said we should at least have headphones for a gaming video project.

Edit: they didn’t actually scoff at me about the headphone thing, they just said tell the kids to bring their own but there’s no way that’s gonna happen. These kids couldn’t even remember to find out their Google account password before taking a YouTube class.

Edit #2: I should also add the “site Director“ for this week is a huge bitch. My friend who recommended me the job and I walked into work today and the woman was laughing at how misbehaved all the kids in my friends class are and how awful it’s going to go for him. Really sets a great tone for a Monday morning
