This is unbelievably tragic. Derahj was a 26 year old Nepalese migrant living in Sydney Australia. After being arrested for finding a missing iphone, having issues with his work visa and spending near $4000au on a lawyer to work through the issues. He was driven to the brink. His GF had left him but worst of all his dodgy employer was overworking him cause he could, no overtime then heading off to another job 6 hours later. The next time i saw him was him hanging next to me as I put something in the garage.
A few days ago he took like 20 painkillers. I took him to the hospital and he assured me it was a mistake and things were going to be okay and looking up.. he came back and WORKED that night. I should have looked deeper. People who suicide NEVER talk about it cause they feel guilty as apposed to people who do who are either crying for help or being manipulative. To us Derajh always seemed stressed but kept his chin up.
What kind of system allows for this. I heard on the news the other day there is a worker shortage and we need migrants yet this is how the system treats them and spits them out. He was estranged or separated from his family but could not access any mental health services which would have saved his life. He would be alive if worker protections were afforded to him. It's just such a waste. I don't know what to think about anything anymore.
