My friend has questions about being “on-call” at his job

So my friend got “promoted” to become a loader/dock worker at a freight line company and will start in 2 weeks. His “lovely” company will require him to work 5 nights a week with 10 hour shifts, without overtime pay (as barbaric as that sounds it's legal for them to do this)… But then he informed they also expect him to be “On-call” as well… Which made me ABSOLUTELY “love” the company even more. He's not gonna quit the job, because he is only going to stay there temporarily to save up enough money to pay for school. I told him he can quit anytime if it gets too much. If he does accidentally answer them to tell them “he has been drinking alcohol” or state “he's out of…

So, I strongly advised to him: if they do text/call him on his off day not to answer them at all. If he does accidentally answer them to tell them “he has been drinking alcohol” or state “he's out of town”..

He's hesitant on doing this because he isn't sure if that's okay to do.

So, I'd like to have your guys input on what he should do when they ask him to come into work on a day he is not scheduled to work ?

I will sceenshot the replies and send them to him, because I think seeing other people's replies will help him feel more at ease about it.

Thanks in advance :))
