Hello everyone, I'm 20 years old and I've worked at this grocery store for 4 years in the midwest of the US. Recently, the manager of the meat department had to leave for surgery temporarily and then found out his wife has cancer so he has to be away longer. He is still currently away. I was informed within the last week that meat department employees will be working 7 straight days a week indefinitely. This being as 2 employees are going on vacation and because the manager is out, on top of a guy they had a long time recently quitting. Our store has a union and the meat department has it's own union specifically. They arent doing anything about their lack of days off because they need the money. I however find it to be wildly unfair. I am friends with guys in this department and I hate that this is happening and they are simply expected to work this much without anything extra as far as compensation goes. Can anyone help or advise me? I really don't wanna cause harm to anybody, I just find it abhorrent that people should work so long without days off. It has to be illegal. I care about them a lot and wanna see them get the proper care and pay they deserve
