My husband got fired from Amazon while on workers compensation from an injury that happened at work, what do I do?

My husband was working for Amazon and fractured his knee on the job. He was take amazon care (their equivalent of a first aid doctor). I took him to the ER that night and the next day we went to the worker’s compensation doctor to fill out forms for work. His orthopedic surgeon put him on full restrictions until an MRI is performed. I have kept pushing an emailing everyone to hurry the process with no response on their end. My husband also has not gotten paid this past 2 months while out of work/injured.

Well my husband got an email from Amazon telling him he was terminated for “abandonment of job”. It was sent to his secondary email where he previously had no correspondence about this issue with Amazon. In the letter it claims that they tried to reach out to him (which they didn’t, we only received the termination email) and that he ignored it. We even filed a claim against the termination and we didn’t receive a response in 48 hours like we were supposed to. So I email the HR team and got no response. We called today and Amazon claimed that he was
Terminated.

This is wrongful termination and I would like to fight this. What would be my first step? Get lawyer? Any other suggestions are welcomed too. I’m open to anything at this point.
