My job is cutting hours and with that, has come unreasonable scheduling

For the sake of privacy, I won’t disclose where I’m employed but I will preface this with saying that I mostly liked my job until recently. When I started here last summer, I thought it was as good as it gets. Consistent schedules, a weekend off every month, great benefits and pay. Seemed like paradise. However, over the last year, I have noticed this place slowly fall apart. It started once we got new team leads. Consistent schedules went out the window, the work was doubled, we began losing people and those we did hire never stayed long. Through it all, I shrugged it off, kept my head up and just worked.

That is, until I got word of hours being cut. Which, for the record, was never told to me via management. I had to find out the hard way. By checking my schedule and realized I was losing 1/3 of my usual hours for the coming weeks. I am part time. I normally work 33.5 hrs across 5 days (this completely defeats the point of being part time btw) but now I’m working 24 hrs across 5 days. That equates to four 4 hr shift and one 8 hr shift.

I live 30 mins away from my job. Driving that far with gas as high as it is for 4 hours of work is insulting. I brought this up to management, they cited it could not be changed for coverage purposes. It’s so damn frustrating.

At 23 years old, I am tired of being a spoke on the wheel. I’m completely expendable and whether or not I can live comfortably is irrelevant. I despise this.
