I work at a dog kennel. I’ve worked there for a few months and am basically the only employee now. Everyone else either left or was fired. So now its me, another employee who works maybe once or twice a week and the owners who come in on the evenings now that there’s no one else to work.
We get tips from customers pretty regularly. Last week i made over $150 in tips in one morning when i realized I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen the tip money. I went home and opened up my pay stubs and there was no mention of tips. I messaged the employee who recently left and she said she never received tips, just assumed the owners kept it.
I messaged the owners and was told that the tips are taxed as a business expense so “noone actually sees the tips”. I messaged a few accountants and lawyers i know and was told this was a big NO NO.
I also saw I’m not making vacation pay, which where i live is mandatory. I was told by the owners that they will contact their accountant to see how much I’ve accumulated. But there’s nothing on my pay stub and no other employees have received vacation pay.
Guess I’ll be contacting the labour board tommorow.
