My job paid for my cell phone and I almost lost my phone number

I worked for a small family owned store until the end of January. I quit and moved away because I could no longer afford to live in the area I was. One of the benefits I had was being on the company cell phone plan. When I joined originally, I was told that when I left they’d help me get my number transferred back to my own plan. So, the time comes and I leave. A month after I left, the owner texted me and let me know it was time to get moving on my own plan. One of the benefits I had was being on the company cell phone plan. When I joined originally, I was told that when I left they’d help me get my number transferred back to my own plan. So, the time comes and I leave.

A month after I left, the owner texted me and let me know it was time to get moving on my own plan. I got a new plan that same day and let him know what info I needed to get my number transferred. He said he couldn’t find it in the app. The next day I texted his wife about the info I needed. She responded “We’re busy this week when we can we will this coming week” immediately followed by “We will call you when we’re free”

Two weeks pass. No call. I text the owners wife again, let her know it’s been 2 weeks and I still really need my phone number. She let her husband know and he had said he’d get it done.

Another week passes. I text the owner again. I’m only missing 1 critical piece of info now, the number transfer pin. The owner gave me his account pin, I knew it wouldn’t work because that’s not the needed info, but I have it a try anyway. It didn’t work. I told him for probably the 5th time that he needed to call att to get the process started for me. He said he’d do it later. When this man says later, I get forgotten about for weeks.

So I called att myself. I had all the account info and the account pin, so I was able to do everything I needed to do. Got the info to my carrier, and I now have my phone number back in my name.

What really pissed me off the most was the owners reaction. I simply said “I figured it out.” To him. He said “What was the hiccup” to which I replied “I called them and asked them to generate a number transfer pin for me.” And that out of touch asshole liked my message.
