Like the title says.
I work in England as a cook in a fast food restaurant and today, after a not-too-great closing shift yesterday (which she knew the reasons for, and the reasons were out of my control), I got a message from one of my colleagues saying that our manager had told him that she was 'going to test [me] for improvement for the next 1-2 weeks' and if I don't meet her expectations, she will fire me.
The only problem with this is that I have heard almost no complaints whatsoever from her to me. I got one real critique about my cooking a week ago (which I amended and asked for feedback on and she said it was perfect now) but nothing besides that and the bad close yesterday.
I've not had any formal warnings and am not being told what areas I need to improve in, despite asking for feedback and being generally seen as a good and helpful employee by coworkers.
Is this… legal? Allowed? Is there anything I can do besides try to meet her Invisible expectations during this Invisible deadline that I wouldn't know about without one of my coworkers telling me?
And, yes, I am actively looking for another job because… uhh. Fuck this?
TL;DR
Manager told colleague but not me that she will fire me in 2 weeks if I don't 'improve' but I have heard no complaints despite asking for feedback. What can I do???
